NUMBER : F2TH070390U85
SUBJECT : New Token Ring Drivers
DATE : July 16, 1990
OS VERSION : 286
REVISION :
SHELL VERSION : 2.15 and 3.01
PROBLEM : The new Token-Ring IPX drivers:
IBM Token-Ring V2.50 (900515) V2.50
Self Configurable
will cause the shell to be unable to find a file server if the IBM Token-Ring
Adapter 16/4 is set for a 8KB "RAM Size and Address Range".
If the adapter is set to the "normal" 16KB RAM Size and Address Range, then
the shell will locate and attach to a file server fine.
I have verified this at 2 sites with file servers running:
Adv NetWare 286 2.15A, 2.21 Token Ring driver.
Adv NetWare 286 2.12, 2.21 Token Ring driver.
Adv NetWare 286 2.15 2.50 Token Ring driver.
Here are some test results:
Adapter Buffer Size IPX driver Netx Ver F/S driver Result
------------------- ---------- ------- ---------- ------
16K 2.50 3.01 2.21 ok
16K 2.50 3.01 2.50 ok
8K 2.50 3.01 2.21 No Attach
8K 2.50 2.15 2.21 No Attach
8K 2.50 3.01 2.50 No Attach
This is important, since many people run their adapaters at 8KB RAM size to
free up more RAM.
SOLUTION : This problem has been reported to Engineering. The
only solution at this time is to run the 16/4 card at the 16KB buffer size
setting.
